In-Service Training is provided by our knowledgeable staff to train providers on how to communicate with Deaf and Deaf/Blind consumers. The movie to the right is a short version of the on-site training we provide. We offer tools and language to help bridge the gap in communication barriers.
We are an approved Certified Maintenance Program by RID to provide workshops, lectures, conferences, or independent study activities such as mentoring and self-study. All Certified Interpreters are required to continue their education by earning Continuing Education Units (CEU). Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf uses this program to monitor certified members accumulation of CEU to promote quality interpreting services. CMP Sponsors are continually monitored and audited by the RID Professional Development Committee Review Board to maintain their status.
As a Collaborative Reading Enthusiasts Workshop (CREW) we offer professional book clubs. We institute a better understanding, judgment, skill-set and use of professional ethics in the interpreting field among its members. It is an on-line based discussion group which challenges participants to examine parallels between cultures, linguistic mediation techniques, work settings and professional relationships. Members read, analyze and discuss a high quality piece of literature through required writing assignments and correspondence with colleagues over a 3 month period. Books are chosen by ASL Interpreter Network Educational Department Staff and include works of fiction, non-fiction, historical documentaries and current research work.
