We know that your time is valuable, so we offer all sign language interpreting services under one roof. Instead of spending days on the phone chasing down available schedules, just make one call, fax, or e-mail to ASL Interpreter Network and we will do the rest. Click
here to request an Interpreter Our goal is superior service. ASL Interpreter Network researches the backgrounds of each of our interpreters. This means based on an interpreter's experience, certification level, education, and training, we will send the most qualified person to your specific situation. You will receive a prompt and complete response to each contact with our staff. |
The
Network
ASL Interpreter Network is an interpreter referral agency serving
the Puget Sound area. We provide interpreters for any situation requiring
communication between hearing and Deaf persons. From the highly technical
customer requiring specifically educated interpreters, to the person with limited
language abilities who needs extra communication tools, we can do it all. If
you have network questions please email our Manager.
Interpreters
ASL Interpreter Network is proud
of it's extensive roster of interpreters. Our network consists of over
75 nationally certified interpreters. We also mentor pre-certified interpreters.
All of our distinguished professionals adhere to a national Code of Ethics.
You can count on quality when working with ASL Interpreter Network's team
of professionals.
Staff
ASL Interpreter Network believes
that in order to offer the best interpreting services, everyone involved must
understand the complexities of the task at hand. Our in-house staff is
intimately aware of Deaf culture and American Sign Language interpreting, and
are involved members in these communities.
Emergency
Service Network
ASL Interpreter Network is proud to offer the Emergency Service
Network (ESN) to our customers. The ESN is a team of nationally certified
interpreters with special education, training, and experience in the medical
and mental health fields. The ESN provides interpreters during hours when traditionally
it was very difficult or impossible to get one. The hours of operation
of the ESN are as follows: Mondays through Fridays 5:00pm - 8:00am, and 24
hours on weekends and all holidays. Businesses that operate 24 hours
per day, and need interpreters during the above hours, are also encouraged to
use these services. The goal of the ESN is to provide the community with
top-notch interpreters regardless of the hour. Please contact our office
if you are interested in using our Emergency Service Network.
Rates
ASL Interpreters are independent
contractors who set their own fees based on their certification level and experience.
ASL Interpreter Network respects these rate differences and does not inflate
costs to pass onto our customers. You will be fully informed of the cost
of each interpreter prior to services being rendered. Your itemized bill
will also clearly explain the interpreter's rates and our small referral fee.
Rate questions, billing concerns, and other financial inquiries should
be directed to our Billing Department.
Education
and Training
ASL Interpreter Network offers education and training to assist
organizations in creating a "Deaf Friendly" environment. Our
training sessions offer the fundamental basics for understanding the Deaf Culture
and the Deaf Community. We also offer American Sign Language classes;
one of the most widely used languages in the United States. Contact our
office with any questions you may have regarding any of these services.
Externship
Opportunities
Each year in the spring, ASL Interpreter
Network chooses two externs to work in the freelance world of interpreting.
Many of these students are recent ITP graduates; however, any pre-certified
interpreter is welcome to apply. The goal of our externship program is
to provide an opportunity for learning professional growth within the confines
of a comfortable environment for all parties involved. Externs accept
regular hours on a monthly basis where they are allowed to observe and perform
interpreting tasks on a volunteer basis and receive critical feedback. Externs
are paired with nationally certified interpreters in an environment where all
parties have been informed and agree to a pre-certified interpreter. They
are sent as an extra interpreter, not a vital part of the communication team.
Assignments less than 1.5 hours that require one interpreter have the
extern as a second interpreter. Assignments over 1.5 hours that require
two interpreters have the extern as a third interpreter. Assignment placements
are based on acceptance by Deaf and hearing customers, appropriateness of subject
matter, and education/history/skill level of the extern. We believe that
this kind of exposure can lead to a positive reputation in the community, eventually
landing externs on Deaf customers "Preferred Interpreter" lists. When
a pre-certified interpreter appears on these lists we can offer them paid assignments
with those specific customers. Applications for externships are available
in March. Contact the office via phone or email
for an application packet.
